Education

We encourage both children and adults to spend time learning and growing in Christ. We offer Sunday School for children (ages 3 and up) and several different adult Bible Study options each Sunday morning, as well as other educational opportunities throughout the week. The current schedule is listed below. We have Women's studies, Men's studies and other small groups.

Youth Sunday School

Sundays at 10:30 a.m. (Ages 3 to High School)

Classes are on break until the Fall. Watch for news about when they will start up again.

Sunday Adult Class

Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in Parish Hall

Paul's Letter to the Galatians. Paul's letter to the church of Galatia is aimed at stamping out a particularly bad, yet earnest, heresy: the claim that in order to be a "good" Christian, you "must" keep particular rules or laws. Paul counters such notions with the Gospel's insistence that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, and in Christ alone.

Men's Bible Study

Wednesdays at 6:30 a.m. at Gebby's - 726 E War Memorial Drive, Peoria Heights

The Formula of Concord: After Luther's death, with pressure from the Emperor, and in debate with other "reformed" churches, the Evangelical Lutherans found themselves besieged on all sides. And the midst of that, they began debates among themselves that threatened to tear the "evangelical" churches apart. The Formula of Concord sought to resolve these debates on the basis of the Scriptures, and succeeded in giving the Lutheran Church a foundation that has proven sturdy into our own age. Join us as we read through it to discover the gifts is has for us.

Lunch Together & Bible Study

Thursdays at Noon in Parish Hall

We’ve added a little extra to our Thursday lunches: a Bible study. We gather for lunch at Noon, eat and visit for a while, and then read a chapter of Scripture together and talk about it.

We’re working through the Gospel according to St. Luke. Trained as a physician, Luke is inspired to give an orderly account of Jesus' work so that all who hear can be "certain" of the things in which they have been catechized. He emphasizes the universality of God's grace in Christ, the completeness of the forgiveness that Jesus won for all, and Christ as the seeker of the lost and lowly. Come, join us!

Pastor Barry Long

Concordia Lutheran School

Mt. Calvary is proud to support Concordia Lutheran School, a kindergarten through eighth grade school located on Glen Avenue in Peoria. Since 1959, Concordia has been providing top-ranked academics in a Christ-centered, nurturing environment.

As one of three sponsoring congregations, we are pleased to offer financial support as well as our prayers and pastoral involvement on campus. If you’d like information about current tuition rates and financial aid for families, please call the church office at (309) 688-4321.

Several of our church members are Concordia teachers. We thank the following individuals for the dedication and commitment to these young students: Elizabeth Tagge and Brooke Barr.

Christ-Centered Education
At Concordia Lutheran School, God’s Word is the foundation for everything we do. Not only do we have weekly Chapel and Bible memory work, but we also pray daily and incorporate the Gospel into our curriculum.
Top-Ranked Academics
With dedicated teachers, the highest and top quality resources, we provide students with every opportunity to succeed academically. Starting in kindergarten and going through eighth grade, children are challenged to perform at their optimum potential. The results speak for themselves. Time after time, our eighth graders leave Concordia equipped to move right to the top of their high school classes.
Award-Winning Extra-Curricular Activities
From optional violin instruction for kindergarten students to competitive junior high basketball teams, we provide access to a full range of activities for nearly every interest. In addition to sports and music, we also offer a rich selection of art, drama, science and scholastic groups. Students of all ages are encouraged to participate in service and ministry-driven philanthropies.
Nurturing Environment
Dedicated to knowing the whole child, all teachers introduce themselves to students and their families during home visits before the start of each school year. This personal approach to education gives the student an opportunity to get to know his or her teacher in a very comfortable situation. The teachers and staff of Concordia have high standards and expectations for our students, but we also love them and nurture their individual God-given gifts.

Thought of the Day

That We and Others Might Believe

Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered Him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. (John 21:2-8)
